8:21 pm - HOLLYWOOD IS DEAD

planetmatt
I though you guys might get a kick taking a peek at my latest project.

HOLLYWOOD IS DEAD.

With this collection of re-imagined parody movie posters, I've faithfully hand-painted every detail before slaughtering them with a zombified treatment. Make no mistake, I'm having way too much fun with this. I grew up on great movies, but the movie posters themselves are almost more vivid in my memory as iconic images. So the opportunity to really study the original master artists like Drew Struzan, Bob Peak, Richard Amsel and others has been awesome.

It’s an ironic twist, to take these beautiful master-works, attempting to recreate every detail, while shredding them to bloody pulps. Nothing here is sacred, but it’s all in good fun and out of the utmost respect to the original posters that had such an impact on my life.

If you find yourself hungry for more, check out the new website: Hollywood-is-Dead.com!

7:10 am - ILLUSTRATION NATION Movie!

planetmatt
Hey peeps, sorry it's been a while since I updated. I wanted to alert you to my new movie that premieres just one week from today: ILLUSTRATION NATION!

The film follows the my adventures around the world on a promotional tour for the New York Times Best-Seller 'You Can Draw Star Wars' from Lucasfilm and DK Publishing. From George Lucas's Skywalker Ranch, through the heart of Hollywood, to the streets of fantastical Tokyo, ILLUSTRATION NATION is an uncensored look at fandom and the pop culture industry that drives it. The pulse-pounding documentary also features rare cameos ranging from Anthony Daniels (Star Wars) to Gene Simmons (KISS, Family Jewels) to adult film legend Seka. Check out the trailer below!

ILLUSTRATION NATION: Movie Trailer

The premiere will be an event hosted by myself at the Main Art in Royal Oak, MI on Thursday, November 20th. Admission is $9.25. Short films and animations will screen at 7 pm. I'll introduce the feature presentation at 7:30 pm, the running time being 1 hr 57 min. A Meet and Greet with the cast will commence after the screening in the side lobby, followed by an after-party at Mr. B's on Main St. All are welcome. Please note that ILLUSTRATION NATION is Not Rated by the MPAA, and is not suitable for children.

See you there!

7:46 am - The Worlds of MATT BUSCH now available, new infomercial!

planetmatt
Heya- I'm excited to announce that my new art book, The Worlds of Matt Busch, (I call it The WOMB for short) is available now! This book is really nice because it (finally) collects all the different entertainment genres I've been lucky to be involved with. You'll see it all- from STAR WARS to BLACK SABBATH.

Not sold on it? Check out this sweet video- it's a parody of those cheesy 80's K-Tel records infomercials...

The Worlds of Matt Busch - Infomercial

If interested, The WOMB is out in stores, but if you want to save some serious dough, order Online from one of these places, all hookin it up significantly cheaper than the retail price!

Amazon . Barnes & Noble . Target . Bud's Art Books . Buy.com . Tower Books

Thanks so much for your support! If you want to know more info on the book, or anything else happening in my little corner of the universe, stop by MattBusch.com!

2:27 am - INDIANA JONES draws STAR WARS!

planetmatt
Fan of INDIANA JONES and STAR WARS are already aware of numerous instances in which the Indy films reference the films from the "galaxy far, far away..." (Did you know that in Temple of Doom, the sound the plane's engines make when it runs out of fuel is the same sound the Millennium Falcon makes when the hyperdrive fails?) Now, paying homage reverses in my latest How To Draw STAR WARS video!

In this episode, I dress up as the famous archeologist, (can you tell I'm having way too much fun with this?) seeking the Temple of Vader. I uncovers the mysteries of the Original STAR WARS Style D "Circus" poster, and prepare to illustrate it's bookend piece for REVENGE OF THE SITH. With the aid of Lucasfilm's Pete Vilmur, you'll see the entire process for getting a STAR WARS poster approved and the many different sketches an artist often goes through. You'll also see how I incorporate digital technology to accommodate changes to the traditional sketches.

How To Draw STAR WARS! Episode 10 of 20: Sith Circus Sketching!

You can check out the first Indy-themed episode on MySpaceTV above. As well, you can see a higher res 640 X 480 version at StarWars.com by clicking HERE. Last but certainly not least, you can also download this episode as a Quicktime movie right HERE.

Hope you enjoy!
